KCET will broadcast the 2006 Music Center's Spotlight Awards on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 9 p.m. and Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 1 p.m.
Southern California's top 12 high school student performers compete for top honors in six music and dance categories. With host John Lithgow, the program features the very best young artists who emerged as finalists after several early rounds of auditions.
The Music Center Spotlight Awards program is one of the nation's most acclaimed performing and visual arts educational programs for teens. Recognizing outstanding young talent in the arts, the program has launched numerous professional careers. Many have joined or performed with professional companies including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Metropolitan Opera, American Ballet Theatre, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. Several are currently touring with hit Broadway musicals including Wicked and Light in the Piazza.
The program was recorded April 29, 2006 at the Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
