Fraternity of Friends

Formed in 1978 by Thornton Bradshaw, Charles T. Manatt, and other supporters of The Music Center ("The Center"), the Fraternity of Friends is an organization of prominent Los Angeles businessmen who share a common interest in the performing arts and believe that the well-being of The Center is directly linked to the betterment of greater Los Angeles.

The Fraternity of Friends membership roster reflects an outstanding cross-section of Southern California's professional, business, entertainment, and civic leaders whose success and influence is felt not only in Southern California, but around the world. Our members' commitment to The Center is strengthened through the lasting, personal friendships they make with one another. Fraternity of Friends activities provide opportunities to relax, socialize, and share interests. Entertaining programs create a stimulating arena for networking with other leaders as well as experiencing art and culture in Los Angeles. Membership is limited and is extended by invitation from the President and the Executive Board of the Fraternity of Friends.

In 1990, the Fraternity of Friends adopted The Spotlight Awards. One of the nation's most prestigious showcases for young artists, the Spotlight Awards program gives high school students throughout Southern California the opportunity to audition and compete for scholarships, prizes, master classes, and, ultimately, the chance to perform on stage at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Fraternity members ensure the success of this event through their personal donations and by recruiting corporate sponsors, becoming mentors for young finalists, and attending the performance and gala dinner. The dedication of the Fraternity members to the youth of today and the artists of tomorrow is manifested in this exceptional program.
