THE URBAN GARDEN

Ira Gershwin Gallery at Walt Disney Concert Hall The Library of Congress Gallery at Walt Disney Concert Hall is the only permanent Library of Congress exhibition outside of Washington DC. The Gallery was established in 2003 as a satellite exhibit space of the Library of Congress.

WEST SIDE STORY - BIRTH OF A CLASSIC EXHIBIT
The exhibition, West Side Story - Birth of a Classic, draws mostly from the Library's extensive Leonard Bernstein Collection and offers a rare view into the creative process and collaboration involved in the making of this extraordinary production.

Included in the exhibition are unique items such as an early synopsis and outline of the script; Bernstein's annotated copy of "Romeo and Juliet"; choreographic notes from Robbins; two original watercolor set designs by Oliver Smith; original music manuscripts; a facsimile of a Sondheim lyric sketch for the song "Somewhere"; and amusing opening-night telegrams from celebrities such as Lauren Bacall, Cole Porter and Betty Comden and Adolph Green.

The West Side Story - Birth of a Classic Exhibit is the eighth exhibition created for the Library of Congress/Ira Gershwin Gallery. The exhibit may be viewed during a tour or when attending a performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. So that visitors may have the opportunity to view different works from the Library's vast collection, the Library of Congress/ Ira Gershwin Gallery exhibition changes semi annually.
